Certificate of Residence for Customs (For Argentine citizens or permanent residents who are moving back to Argentina)

All Argentine citizens or permanent residents, who are moving back to Argentina in order to establish residence in the country, must present this certificate, as required by the Customs National Administration. This document allows the entrance in the country of luggage, personal effects, and home furnishings both new and used, either traveling with the passenger (accompanied luggage) or being sent separately by land, air or sea (unaccompanied luggage).
The person is also allowed to enter one vehicle per adult traveler, by paying the custom’s fee according to the blue book.

To qualify for this benefit, the interested party must have been residing out of Argentina for at least 1 (one) year, and no more than 60 days in Argentine territory during the last 12 months.

Personal effects and vehicle must enter the country during the 6 months following the definitive arrival of the interested party.  At that time, they must inform Customs that they have unaccompanied luggage (if that be the case), which will be noted in their passport. The traveler should keep the certificate, since this will be required together with the “unaccompanied luggage” stamp in the passport, in order to release the goods from customs

Requirements to obtain a certificate of residence at the Consulate:

    Valid Argentine passport (not expired)
Previous Argentine passports or foreign passports (if applicable)
Proof of address confirming that the interested party has been living in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine for the last 12 months (i.e. rent lease, phone bills, electricity/gas bills, cable bills)
Money order for U$S 40 to pay the consular fee. Money orders can be purchased at any bank or post office.
If taking a vehicle, original title and money order for U$S 30 to pay for the consular fee.

This certificate can be obtained either in person or sending the required documentation by mail, in which case, a prepaid return envelope is required.
